That’s very pathetic and dangerous part of global warming! River Ganga as well as Dead sea is going to disappear. I don’t want live till it comes true- Ganga may become a ‘seasonal river’ that will flow only during the rainy season. Moreover this could happen before the turn of the century- obviously we can’t put the melting Gangotri inside one freeze. Can we make changes?

How tragic it sounds- “Ganga, the seasonal river”. We can’t stop the global warming, but perhaps we can pray God!

I think the biggest service that we can do to the cause of Ganga is to avoid using and throwing polyethelne. It chokes and is not biodegradable. Next to dry up should be bolld in human veins. So beware O’ Homosapiens!

Fariha, most people in India and in fact in Indian subcontinent, worship everything that gives and supports life, like Sun, Moon, Air, Rain, Rivers, Trees etc. And to make sure everybody respects and preserves these life supporting elements of nature, wise people created religious stories around them.
Ganga, as you may have read, has for many many years supported life of millions of people living along its flow and so it is naturally very important and is considered holiest of all the rivers... So if you look at it purely from religious point of view, may be your question is apt, but then man has gone to moon, so wots the point in worshiping it, rite?
But the point made in this article is very important considering the importance of the river for life of so many people living by its shores... With glaciers disappearing, it will indeed be not long before Ganga shrinks in size and with global warming, most sources of fresh water in our world may disappear.
